This weekend I had the pleasure of tasting various cheeses from Sapori d'Italia at the St. Matthew's Farmer's Market. To be truthful, I came to the farmer's market to try Kenny's cheeses. I discovered their website this week and have since been anticipating the cheeses that so many critics have praised. I sampled the cumin gouda as well as the plain gouda and was sorely let down. As a native from Oregon--the land of beautiful artisan cheeses--I have much experience in tasting various cheeses. I wracked my brain to try and figure out how Kenny's had won such acclaim, and why the women in line behind me were so excited to buy the cheese.
I immediately returned to the Sapori d'Italia booth to purchase the only true artisan cheese I have found thus far in Kentucky. Not only was the 3-day chevre delectable, but all of the aged goat cheeses were bright and well-crafted. It is difficult to find good aged goat cheese and it is obvious that the cheese makers at Sapori d'Italia have brought tried and true methods of their trade.
If you are considering an artisan cheese from Kentucky, choose Sapori d'Italia!
